Imperial Palace Outer Garden / Nijubashi Bridge
皇居外苑・二重橋

Formerly the site of Edo Castle, the stronghold of the Tokugawa clan, it was renamed the Imperial Palace after the Meiji Restoration. Nijubashi Bridge comprises two bridges, one stone and one steel, and it is the symbolic entrance to the Imperial Palace. It is famous in that it is only used very occasionally, such as for visits to the palace by the general public at the New Year and visits by foreign dignities.
