Established in 1872, the Tokyo National Museum is Japan’s oldest museum. The facilities consist of five exhibition buildings, and the permanent “Japanese Gallery” exhibits and introduces famous items such as National Treasure objects and Important Cultural Property objects.
(Toyokan is closed due to earthquake-proof construction work and is scheduled to reopen in January 2013.)
