Enjoy the works of world-renowned ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai

Opened in November 2016, the Sumida Hokusai Museum is a museum themed on famous ukiyo-e (woodblock print) artist Katsushika Hokusai.
The Permanent Exhibition includes displays of high-definition replicas of precious collection pieces such as “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji” and “Hokusai’s Sketchbooks”. The museum is also holding a special exhibition titled “Tekuteku Tokaido: Hokusai to Tabisuru Goju-san Tsugi (Leisurely Journey around Tokaido: Travelling the 53 Stages of the Tokaido Highway with Hokusai)” until June 11 (Sunday).

Science MuseumA 10-minute walk from Kudanshita Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line.

Experience the fascination of science and technology

From wonders in everyday life to the mysteries of the universe, this facility provides experiential exhibits and workshops where visitors can learn how we have come to understand humankind through science and how technology has been advanced.
The museum has around 20 exhibition halls with various different themes, allowing visitors to broaden their knowledge of science and technology in an exciting way.

Sunshine AquariumA 6-minute walk from Higashi-Ikebukuro Yonchome Station on the Tokyo Sakura Tram.

Encounter rare and unusual fish at this rooftop aquarium

Sunshine Aquarium is an aquarium close to the sky (rooftop) where you can see displays of a variety of aquatic creatures—including sunfish, weedy sea-dragons, giant isopods, and sea angels—and even enjoy a sea lion show.
The 2nd “Poisssssssonous Exhibition”—the sequel to the immensely popular 1st exhibition held in the summer of 2014 that drew some 200,000 visitors—is being held in the Special Exhibition Hall until September 3.

Asakusa Engei HallA 10-minute walk from Asakusa Station on the Toei Asakusa Line.

Brighten your spirit with tasteful laughter

Opening in 1964 in a corner of Asakusa—a world-famous sightseeing district of Tokyo—Asakusa Engei Hall is a rakugo (storytelling) theater with a long and distinguished history.
In recent years, the theater has been frequented by many young people and foreign visitors who come to enjoy the tasteful entertainment comprising not only rakugo, but also manzai stand-up comedy, mandan comic monologues, magic shows, acrobatics, impersonations, comedy sketches, and other traditional Japanese performing arts.

Space Museum
TeNQ (Ten-Q)A 5-minute walk from Suidobashi Station on the Toei Mita Line.

A space where you can enjoy “space” in comfort

This museum opened in Tokyo Dome City in July 2014. Under the theme “Amazing Space”, the facility recreates the night sky and outer space using cutting-edge technology.
The museum is holding an experiential exhibition titled “The Journey to EUROPA by KLOKA” until June 28. Based on the latest scientific surveys, this exhibition provides views from observation windows of a research vessel and displays of the imagined ocean floor created using 3D objects.

Teramachi Art Museum and GalleryA 6-minute walk from Nippori Station by Nippori-Toneri Liner.

Experience the Edo Period atmosphere and Yanaka streetscape

Opening in 2011 in the Yanaka district—designated by UNESCO as a “Heritage for the Future”—the Teramachi Art Museum and Gallery boasts a collection of about 300 ukiyo-e (woodblock prints).
The museum is holding the “Violin Exhibition and Performance by Young Violin Artists” until June 4, and the “Summer Ukiyo-e Exhibition” will begin on June 6.
