Hibiya Park

Gingko and maple trees recalling the Meiji era

This park was designed by Dr. Seiroku Honda, known as the "Father of Parks." Opened in 1903, it was the first Western-style park in Japan. Autumn beautifully turns the colors of the leaves on the gingko trees lining the path, which retains the look of the days when the park first opened, and on the maple trees around the pond with its fountain topped by a statue of a crane.

Kyushibarikyu Garden

Beautiful scenery featuring majestic masonry and autumn colors

This garden belonged to a feudal lord in the early Edo period. It is centered on a pond and designed for strolling. It features a central island symbolizing Mount Horai of Taoist lore, a dry waterfall, and masonry consisting of stepping stones and other distinctive stones. In autumn, its beautiful scenery is enhanced by the colors of maple, cherry, winged spindle, and other trees.

Hikarigaoka Park

Rows of gingko trees from the station to the park

The park was built in the 1980s along with the Hikarigaoka housing project. The Fureai Path linking Hikarigaoka Station and the park is lined with huge gingko trees more than 130 years old. Rows of another 28 gingko trees in the park form a stunning golden tunnel in autumn.

Higo-Hosokawa Garden

Savor the sight of autumn colors, with a different look by day and night

This strolling garden with pond was built in the mid-Edo period and stands on the grounds of what, at the end of that period, was the mansion of the Hosokawa Clan from Kumamoto. Its design accents the changes of terrain and natural setting, and the scarlet leaves of maple trees here and there are striking. The illumination event, for a limited period only, makes the autumn colors even more enchanting.

Toneri Park

A street lined with conifers that glitter golden

The metasequoia trees line the way from the park entrance to the fountain, and their autumn colors are a spectacular sight. Known as the "dawn cedar" in Japanese, it is a tall deciduous tree with golden leaves that look striking against the blue sky. Also, be sure to visit the large and small ponds located throughout the broad park, with their autumn scenery.

Hamacho Park

Spend an autumn day at the station-front park

This is the biggest of any park established by a Tokyo ward. It has a general sports center, children's play area, and other facilities, and is a place of rest and recreation for the ward residents. Autumn turns the gingko trees on the street facing the park a beautiful gold, and the cherry and zelkova trees in the park red.
