SANAGI SHINJUKU

High color saturation food x culture space

Born at the southeast exit of Shinjuku Station, this gourmet spot focusses on food x culture. Here there are four food shops standing side-by-side in an Asian-Japanese Street Stall Village theme. The most popular spot is the Hyakkaryoran (100 flowers) Lantern Yokocho, which is hung with colorful lanterns. The bright pink Sana D Nedoko and Uwasabanashi no Kobeya are also must-see attractions. Be sure to also see the fantastical toilets.

Kagurazaka

A district that remains imbued with the essence of Japan

With its narrow flagstone-paved streets and intricate alleyways, Kagurazaka retains the atmosphere of the old Edo red-light district. The area has many recommended spots to visit, such as Hyogo Yokocho with its beautiful flagstone pavement and Kakurenbo Yokocho lined with Japanese restaurants behind traditional black latticed walls. Take a stroll while enjoying Kagurazaka's photogenic streetscape that presents a variety of expressions, including Zenkoku-ji Temple, which is watched over by statues of guardian tigers rather than the usual guardian lion-dogs; and Akagi Shrine, which was designed by architect Kengo Kuma.

Beautiful, fantastical reflections of Tokyo Skytree®

This bridge spanning the Kitajikkengawa provides an expansive field of vision with the powerful full-length view of Tokyo Skytree rising magnificently in the distance. Skytree is reflected upside-down on the river's surface, and its appearance transforming beautifully in the magical time just after sunset. At nighttime, it is possible to photograph Skytree lit up with bright, gorgeous seasonal illuminations. Be sure to wrap up warmly to protect against the cold when you venture out.

Yanaka Ginza

Lots of cute things!

Experience the Old Town Tokyo retro atmosphere in the Yanaka Ginza shopping street. With many cute shops, this district is a fun place for taking an eating tour while taking photographs. The area is also known as a town of cats, and there are various shops selling cat ornaments and goods. From the top of the Yuyake Dandan steps, which have appeared in movies, photograph the scenery as the sun slowly sets, savoring the old-time Showa-era atmosphere.

Minowa

Nostalgic Showa-era Streetscape

Along the platform of Minowabashi Stop, the starting point for the Toden Arakawa Line, remain various advertising billboards from the Showa period (1926-1989), such as "Bon Curry" and "Kincho." Together with the atmosphere of the station building, these create a nostalgic retro setting for taking photographs. A short walk from the station is the Joyful Minowa shopping street where you can find the Pan no Omura a bread shop that has been in operation for decades, as well as a nearby building with "Umezawa Photographic Studio" written on the exterior, both of which exude a nostalgic atmosphere that creates a streetscape that you will unconsciously want to photograph.

Platinum Street

Elegant, high-end streetscape

Despite the tranquil streescape, this is a sophosticated area for adults. Lining the avenue of ginkgo trees are lovely restaurants, cafes, and boutiques. Here there are many building that would make for wonderfully unique photos - such as the Kojo Restaurant, a famous TV drama location, and buildings whose basic designs were created by renowned designer Philippe Starck—adding a rich expressiveness to your shots.
