Arisugawa-no-miya Memorial Park

A Japanese-style garden with a thick growth of trees

The park was built on the site of a former palace belonging to the Arisugawa line of imperial princes. It features two waterfalls, one large and one small, plunging from a hilltop, as well as creeks and ponds with islands and stone lanterns. It is an elegant Japanese-style garden that is perfect for strolling. Along the creeks, whose banks have lush growths of different trees, flowers, and other foliage, visitors may also spot birds, turtles, and other wild animals.

Toneri Park

A pleasant park with plenty of blue sky and rows of trees

The big pond in the northeastern part of the park has a natural growth of reeds and waterbeds, and is home to all sorts of creatures. Its periphery was planted with a row of metasequoia trees that enhance its beauty. Visitors love taking a leisurely walk along its banks under a clear blue sky. In summer, they can also view glory flowers (Clerodendrum Bungei) and crape myrtles in bloom.

Akabane Nature Observation Park

A nature-rich park using water from a spring

This park makes full use of a natural spring that was selected as one of the 57 notable springs in Tokyo and is the only one in Kita Ward. Its grounds include a pond with waterfowl, a rice paddy, and a dragonfly pond. The paddy is irrigated with water drawn from the spring, and visitors can see how rice is grown in it. The rice plants begin to sprout ears in August.

Ojima Komatsugawa Park

A large park with five fields

Measuring about 250,000 square meters, this expansive park has several fields here and there. The Freedom Field features a large flower bed planted with different flowers in each season. The Wind Field has one hill with a scenic viewpoint and another covered with a grassy lawn. In the park, visitors will also find the former Komatsugawa Locks, which were once used to adjust the water level to permit the passage of ships.

Sumida Park

The site of a mansion that belonged to the Mito Tokugawa family, with many historic sites nearby

This park spans both banks of the Sumidagawa River. On the eastern side, which is in Sumida Ward, is the site of Koume-tei, a villa that belonged to the Mito branch of the Tokugawa family. It has been transformed into a Japanese-style garden using the pond and other elements from shogunate times. Visitors can take a walk around the pond while gazing at Tokyo SKYTREE®. On the park's periphery are several sites of historical interest, including a monument concerning a throne used by Emperor Meiji and an old-fashioned all-night street lamp.

Ogunohara Park

A lush park that is a habitat for many different species of dragonfly

With a grassy plaza, open field, marsh, and dragonfly pond, the park is a habitat for many species of insects, plants, and flowers. It offers visitors full enjoyment of a natural setting left in the middle of Tokyo. The dragonfly pond was created in a place that was once a swamp, and is home to a diversity of dragonfly species, including the Shiokara Tombo (Orthetrum albistylum) and Ginyamma (Anax parthenope).
