Joyful Minowa Shopping Street

Shopping Street that is Showa Retro

Minowa Shopping Street, which prospered starting from the Taisho period, was converted to a shopping arcade in 1978. The street is approximately 400 meters long and packed with old-fashioned shops loved by the local residents such as bakeries with nostalgic showcases, miso stores that sell by weight, and public baths.

Takanawa Fire Station Nihonenoki Branch

View of the Showa Modern Fire Station

This living cultural heritage is a building constructed in the early Showa period that is still in use even now as an active fire station. The German expressionist architecture, which was popular after World War I, is an applied design incorporating many curved lines and surfaces. Old pump cars that were in active service until 1964 were also on display, providing visitors with nostalgic scenery.

Jinrikisha in Asakusa

Jinrikisha reached their peak of popularity as a form of transportation in the early Meiji period. In Asakusa, you can still enjoy taking in the sights while riding in a jinrikisha. If you gaze at the scenery of the local areas going by from your seat on a tourist jinrikisha as drivers tow you around, you can get a sense for both the unchanging and changing aspects of the city.

Former Kira Kozukenosuke Residence

A precious historic park that passes down Edo's history to today.

Kira Residence Remains that were the scene of the "Ako Incident," which is also known as the "Forty-seven Ronin", an uprising that shook the peaceful world of the mid-Edo period. This is a precious historic monument that tells the story of the actual events that played out in early modern Tokyo. Within the vast ruins of the residence, which is said to have been 2,550 tsubo (approx. 90,729 square feet), a portion of the original structure remains, with "the well where Kira's head was washed after he was beheaded" at its center.
