Arakawa Amusement Park’s illumination displays gradually change with the season, such as Christmas in December and New Year in January. Illuminations are lit on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, the day before a public holiday, winter vacation period, and other times when the park is open at night. The Arakawa Kirakira Parade is also held irregularly.

Celebrating Tokyo Midtown Hibiya’s 5th anniversary, the theme of this year’s illumination display, “BEST WISHES,” embodies hope for a bright future. Purple, yellow, light blue—the vivid anniversary colors brighten the entire Hibiya District with a richly fantastic mood during the day and at night.

Launched in 2006, this illumination event is a winter feature of Kabukicho in Shinjuku. Decorating the trees along the approximately 700-meter-long avenue of trees lining Kuyakusho-dori Street are white glass lights shaped like wine glasses. Softly illuminating this colorful district, these soothing lights have a special appeal.

The main venues for this illumination event are the Shinjuku Niagara Falls water fountain and Observation Forest. The waterfall is illuminated, while moving lights dance across the steps. Here you can also find night views of the Shinjuku subcenter as well as spots for photographs, and a variety of different experiential events are also held.

Megurogawa Minna no Illumi is an event that colors the trees lining the Meguro River cherry blossom pink. With energy-savings being encouraged these days, used cooking oil provided by local households and restaurants is used instead of electricity. Affection for the local area is in full bloom again this year.

Fabric, buttons, sewing utensils … Nippori Senigai (Fabric Street) is an approx. 1 km stretch of Nippori Chuo-dori Street beginning at Nippori Station that is lined with more than 90 specialist shops. The arch-shaped entrance to the street sparkles with charming Christmas wreath lights that you can only see at this time of year.
